The original Memory Stick Duo was introduced in 2003 by Sony Corporation as a smaller alternative to their Memory Stick, to meet the needs of smaller portable electronic devices such as digital cameras and mobile phones. It is slightly smaller than the popular SD/SDHC cards and is almost half the size of a generation one Memory Stick.
The Memory Stick Duo format had similar limitations to those of SD cards. The maximum storage capacity of 128MB, and transfer speed of just 2.45MB/Sec led to the development of a faster, higher volume format, the Memory Stick PRO Duo later in 2003. Unlike it's proprietary predecessors, this PRO platform was jointly developed by Sony Corporation and SanDisk Corporation. Again similar to SD/SDHC cards, the Duo/PRO Duo cards share the same physical format but the PRO platform offers a higher storage capacity of up to 32GB and higher transfer speeds of up to 30MB/Sec.
The Memory Stick PRO Duo is compatible with most modern Sony Cameras, although, not all cameras may be able to make use of the higher transfer speed that the Memory Stick PRO Duo has to offer.
Please note that Memory Stick PRO Duo cards are ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH SONY CAMERAS. If you are looking for a memory card for another brand of camera, please check our camera card database to find the right card for you.
